About Kevin Buckwalter




After gaining experience as a family practice and urgent care doctor in a general hospital setting, Dr. Kevin Buckwalter became eager to care for his own patients, hands-on. Dr. Buckwalter opened his own primary care private practice in 2001, and has been helping his own patients in the Henderson, Nevada area ever since.

Dr. Buckwalter studied Public Health at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he became interested in medicine. While completing his Bachelor of Science Degree, Buckwalter explored experimental neurology, conducting research on Glial regeneration in an insect’s Central Nervous system, working with Dr. Agyli and the university’s Zoology Department. Buckwalter also got involved with the American Red Cross, volunteering at Blood Drives in the Reno area. Buckwalter received many awards for his outstanding academic record and leadership skills, including a Las Vegas Numismatic Scholarship and a United States Achievement Collegiate Award.

His prior undergraduate achievement allowed Buckwalter to complete his medical degree at the Ross University School of Medicine in New York. Buckwalter completed a study with Shriners Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles regarding the effects of Latex with Myelodysplastic Children, and achieved Dean’s List status several times. Buckwalter graduated with honors and in the top 10% of his class, and earned an internship with the Department of Surgery at the Pennsylvania State University Hospital in Hershey.

Buckwalter completed his residency with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and became a Diplomate with the American Board of Family Practice. During this time, Buckwalter served an eighteen-month mission in Georgia with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Buckwalter also researched and authored John Edwin Buckwalter Sr. and Descendants, 1834-1979, a book about his family’s ancestry.

At the end of his studies, Dr. Buckwalter served with the Fremont Medical Center in Henderson, and later, with Sierra View District Hospital in Porterville, California. When his private practiced opened in 2001, Dr. Buckwalter was the only LDS primary care physician in the south Las Vegas region. Buckwalter earned Advanced Cardiac, Trauma, Pediatric and Obstetrics Life Support Certification. Buckwalter is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Nevada Academy of Family Physicians, and the American Medical Association.
